Artist’s Statement
Soft washes of watercolor evoke the timeless rhythm of the Hudson River – sailboats drifting, people relaxing near riverbanks, and sunlit trees casting shadows across the paths. The scenes blend natural beauty with everyday life, capturing peaceful yet vibrant moments along this historic river.
Bio
The first time I tried watercolor painting was in high school. That was a very long time ago. But, in my teens, I immediately fell in love with the medium. It seemed almost magical to me, particularly the way the colors blossomed and merged on paper with the touch of clean water. I was attracted to the simplicity of watercolor and the craft of capturing light in the scene through the paper itself.
College, marriage, career and family followed creating an almost 45 year gap in painting. None at all. And then retirement happened. And, the pandemic happened. Oddly, the two together have given me the time to rediscover watercolors. Now with a new great teacher, Ms. Lori McQueeney and a rich offering of online tutorials from wonderful artists, my desire to paint has never been greater. It has been pouring out of me.
Finally, I am fortunate enough to live in the Hudson Valley region of New York and the shoreline of Connecticut. The scenery is inspiring in every season. The vast sky, the light between the trees, the reflections in the snow, and the abundance of water around every corner. There is never a shortage of inspiration to paint.
For the past couple of years, I have had the good fortune of being invited to show my art at various local venues including many of the local libraries, coffee houses and town halls. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
