The library is closed on all legal holidays, including Christmas Eve, but it is open on Election Day.

Our Summer Reading Game encourages kids to read for fun and keeps them entertained and engaged with a variety of activities during July and August. Going on vacation? Don’t worry—kids can take books with them and get back in the game when they return!

The program, which runs from June 23rd to August 17th, is open to kids of all ages, including pre-schoolers and teens. The kick-off is on June 23rd, but kids can join anytime so stop by the library to sign up. If you are going into 5th grade or above, you can also sign-up to be a Book Buddy.

The game is simple. Once you sign-up, visit the Children’s Room every week to talk about the book or books you’re reading and get a prize!

Various Board Games, and Bingo with snacks and prizes! For Ages 5 years and up.


1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the Month, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

Come join us for songs, rhymes, books, laughter, movement and fun for our youngest patrons and their caregivers. This interactive one-on-one program is a great opportunity to introduce early literacy skills while bonding with your little one. Babytime is a program for lap-babies, crawlers, and “no-so-steady” walkers. For children age birth to 2 years. Please bring your baby blanket, towel or yoga mat!

Legos, Grades K-2

Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m.

A free build Lego program.

★ Pajama Story Time

Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., June 27 through August 8

Come dressed in your coziest pajamas, and bring along your favorite stuffed animal and blanket, as we cozy up to read some bedtime stories and songs. For children ages birth to 7 years old.

Pre-school Storytime

Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30-11:00 a.m.

FIESTA! With Flor

Wednesdays from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

A fun free Bilingual (English/Spanish) music program for children ages 0-5 years old with a parent/caregiver. Flor Bromley teaches Spanish through music, movement, puppetry, and theatre based games.

Kids Arts & Craft Lab

Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Learn how famous artists work, and make art with your friends! Take home what you make. For ages 3 and up. REGISTRATION REQUIRED (BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON).

Movers & Shakers

Thursdays from 10:45-11:15 a.m.

A fun half-hour of music, rhythm, sounds, rhymes and DANCE!! Spontaneous music and movement are vital to the creative educational process. Amy Gardiner, with a Master of Arts in Education leads this group for pre-schoolers aged 4 months to 3 years.

Moms and Infants Support Group

Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
2nd Saturday of the month, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Lego Club, Grades 3 and up

Stories & Songs with Amy

Fridays from 10:15-10:45 a.m.

It’s time for great stories, classic kids’ songs, new music and lots of dancing! Join songwriter-guitarist Amy Hersh, who has previously performed at the Ossining Public Library and the Clearwater Festival for stories and songs! For ages 6 months to 5 yrs. old.


Fridays from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
4th Tuesday of the month from 11:00-1:00p.m.

Come meet and socialize with other parents and caregivers. Play with brand new toys just for this age group! For babies, infants and toddlers ages birth to 36 months.


Up in Arms Presents “Musical Monsters”

Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m.

The Croton Free Library kicks-off its 2018 Summer Reading Game with “Musical Monsters,” presented by Up in Arms. Starring sweet and funny puppets, the show follows the quest of Melvin the monster for the confidence to pass the test for his screamer’s license. Melvin’s friend Red the rat narrates Melvin’s journey to tap into his monster intelligence. while teaching the audience about the various music styles from rock to country, classical, jazz, Latin, pop, and Broadway standards. Entertaining for the entire family, “Musical Monsters” is an excellent start to this year’s Summer Reading Game, with its theme “Libraries Rock.” Youngsters are invited to sign up for the Library’s Summer Reading Game which runs from June 23 to August 17. During the summer, children share their reading to earn prizes, drop in for crafts, watch movies, play bingo and lots more.

Sciencetellers Presents “Wild West: The Mystery of the Golden Piano”

Saturday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m.

Sciencetellers offers a classic, action-packed western with “notes” of science. Journey to the Wild West, where a legendary bank-robbing outlaw is back in town, about to strike again! After the Sheriff mysteriously vanishes, two youngsters must foil the great heist — but not before stopping a runaway train, escaping from an abandoned mine shaft, and discovering how a mysterious piano can play an “instrumental” part in putting a rotten cowboy back behind bars. Throughout this adventure story, audience members explore the fascinating science behind chemical reactions, acids and bases, combustion, air pressure, inertia and more. Ideal for grades K through 5.

The Bossy Frog Band

Saturday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Jeffrey Friedberg and the The Bossy Frog Band thrill young audiences with their banjo-driven, costume-character-dancing, 100% interactive music concert. Their show has been enjoyed by over 100,000 children and families! And, their latest recording, “15 Songs Every Kid Should Know (and will LOVE!),” is a Parents’ Choice Award winner. It’s the fun finale to the Summer Reading Game. Sign up for your reading log anytime until August 18. Share your reading with the Children’s Room helpers often and collect your treats.


Are you looking for a fun community service project this summer? If you are going into grade 6 or above, you can become a Book Buddy! Read to youngsters in the Children’s Room at the Croton Free Library, during our Summer Reading Game (June 23 to August 17). Come into the library on June 23 or anytime after and sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Game. Receive cool prizes and incentives for reading! Come in once a week, and tell one of the reference librarians about what you have read or are currently reading. More Info
