Support the Library!

Although the bulk of the library’s funding comes from taxes, many people do not realize the extent to which the library building, collection and programs have been funded by the Croton Free Library Association and by the generous contributions from people like you. Thank you for your support.

Association Membership

The mission of the Croton Free Library Association is to promote and encourage the development and maintenance of library service for free public use to the inhabitants of the village of Croton-on-Hudson and vicinity.

The Association raises funds to support ongoing operations, programs and services of the library as well as significant purchases such as the new piano in the Ottinger Room. Events sponsored by the Association include the semi-annual Book & Bake Sale, held each Spring and Autumn, as well as an annual membership drive and ongoing merchandise sales.

The officers of the Association are elected for two-year terms by the membership at the Association's annual meeting. The current officers are:

  • Peggy Weiss, President, 2008-2010
  • Marianne Merola, Vice-President
  • Sheila Donnelly, Treasurer
  • Robin Schwamb, Secretary

Voting membership in the Association is open to any person over the age of 18 or family who submits an annual association membership donation.

If you would like to become a member, pick up an application at the library or click here to download and print a membership application.

Donations and Bequests

Throughout its history, generous donations from Croton residents and friends have allowed the library to greatly expand the range of services it offers to the community. Examples of this support include:

  • The many lectures, concerts, art exhibits, children’s programs and most recently a Red Cross Blood Drive presented at the library are held in the Ottinger Room, made possible by a substantial bequest from Egon and Lilyan Ottinger.
  • The recent renovation of the children’s room, as well as the wonderful children’s programming offered on a weekly basis, was made possible by a generous bequest from the Meissner family.

If you would like more information about making a donation or bequest to the Croton Free Library, please call Mary Donnery, Library Director, at 914-271-6612 or email her at mdonnery@wlsmail.org.
